A neighbor walked by the farm this week, on a beautiful sunny afternoon. "What a great day to be
a farmer, eh?" he said. Yep. In fact, it feels like a great year to be a farmer! These gorgeous February
days are like the "usual" stretch of dry weather in February that Oregonians are familiar with. I'm
hoping this year will prove to be "normal" and the painfully late, wet, cold spring seasons of the last
two years were the aberrations.
We've had a great winter of growth and organization around the Circle h. We reorganized the
tractor/junk storage area into a produce wash station, complete with stainless steel sinks and a
concrete slab floor. And you'll love the new CSA pick-up site! Along with the new huge greenhouse,
we are ready for business.
And there's more exciting news! The stars have aligned to give us the equipment needed to take
SNAP benefits. We can accept SNAP at markets or for the CSA. Simultaneously, marketing
opportunities have presented themselves in Oakridge and in the Whiteaker neighborhood of Eugene,
two areas where SNAP is vital.
Anyone interested in food security in rural Oregon will be interested in FEAST, an event
facilitated by the Oregon Food Bank in various locations around the state. The community of Oakridge
will come together on March 3 to promote local food at a FEAST event, and Circle h will be there to
help.
Circle h will also be educating the public on local food at this years' That's My Farmer event, held
at Eugene's First United Methodist Church (1376 Olive St) on March 13th. If you're interested in
community supported agriculture in the lower Willamette Valley, this is the place to be!
